UPCOMING WEBINAR

“Searching JCat’s Jewish Newspaper and Yizkor Book Compilations”

Explore this innovative new resource for genealogical researchers – the Documentation of Jewish Records Worldwide’s (DoJR) JCat.

In its first phase, JCat includes catalog compilations that bring together newspapers published in dozens of countries, in many languages, and in all formats: digital online, microfilm, paper, and more. Also included in this first phase of JCat are catalog entries for Yizkor books held by libraries and archives. Using JCat reduces the need for researchers to visit myriad repositories and locations.

Newspapers are an especially valuable source because they cover wide geographic areas with enriched detail about individual lives that goes beyond names, dates, and places. They expand our ability to produce true family history. Yizkor books were written by landsmen to document the history of their community and the stories of the individuals and families who lived there. A Yizkor book may be all that has survived of a community destroyed during the Holocaust.

We will share tips on how best to obtain meaningful JCat search results and preview our plans to expand the JCat database.

NOTE: This webinar will be held twice with a repeat program. Register for a time-zone friendly session.
